Air Baltic Launches Flight from Rzeszów to Riga

Starting from Friday, November 8, 2024, passengers can fly from the airport in the Rzeszów suburb of Jasionka to Riga with Latvia's national airline, Air Baltic. The flights, operated on Airbus A220-300 aircraft, run twice a week.

“We are delighted to welcome our fifth regular carrier to the airport, along with another attractive travel destination. Flights to this beautiful European capital on Fridays and Mondays offer a perfect opportunity for a city break to Riga”, said Adam Hamryszczak, President of Rzeszow Ulma Family Airport. The first flight to Latvia's capital took off nearly full.

For the Subcarpathian airport, Riga is an entirely new destination, and the debut of Air Baltic in the region makes it the fifth regular carrier, following Polish Airlines LOT, Germany's Lufthansa, and low-cost carriers Ryanair and Wizz Air. The flight from Jasionka to Riga takes one and a half hours. Flights are scheduled twice a week: on Mondays and Fridays at 1:00 PM from Riga and at 2:20 PM from Rzeszów.

“This new route will open up new opportunities for cooperation, not only between Latvia and Poland but also on a regional level. It will provide more convenient and faster connections to the Baltic and Northern European countries and help develop the region as a logistical hub for various types of cargo and more efficient humanitarian aid delivery, especially in the context of Ukraine's reconstruction”, added Juris Poikāns, the Latvian Ambassador to Poland, who attended the route's opening.

In 2023, Latvia's largest airport served over 6.6 million passengers. Located just 6 kilometers from the city center, it offers excellent transfer connections, making it possible to reach destinations like Oslo, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Helsinki, or Tallinn from Rzeszów in around five hours. Air Baltic connects the Baltic countries to over 70 destinations in Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and the Caucasus.

“As the airport's main shareholder, we are particularly pleased with its growth. This is yet another carrier operating from our airport and a new attractive route. As hosts of the region, we warmly invite Latvians to take advantage of the connection to Rzeszów and explore the beauty of Subcarpathia”, emphasized Karol Ożóg, Vice Marshal of the Subcarpathian Voivodeship.

Founded in 1995, Air Baltic boasts one of the youngest fleets in Europe, consisting of 49 Airbus A220-300 aircraft.

“By launching this route, we are not only strengthening our presence in Poland but also, given Rzeszów's proximity to the Ukrainian border, taking the first step to provide Ukrainians with safer travel options to the rest of Europe. We look forward to meeting the demand from Subcarpathia’s passengers and are grateful to Rzeszów Airport for its cooperation and support”, said Thomas Ramdahl, Vice President of Network Management at Air Baltic.

The first passengers on the Riga–Rzeszów–Riga route were treated to a sweet surprise at the airport terminal. Tickets for Air Baltic flights, including business class, are available at attractive prices on airBaltic.com.
