Rzeszow Airport welcomed its millionth passenger in 2023, with a surprise recital by Justyna Steczkowska!

On Thursday morning (28 December), Rzeszów-Jasionka Airport checked in its one millionth passenger in 2023, Iwona Kurpiewska from Horyniec Zdrój, who arrived with her husband Robert and son Leoś on a Rayanair flight from Manchester. The highlight of the event was a recital performed in the passenger terminal by Justyna Steczkowska, a music star from the Podkarpacie region.

– Welcoming the millionth passenger has been a long-awaited milestone in the history of our airport. We have been working hard for several years to achieve this result by expanding our network of connections. In recent years, we have added regular and charter flights to new destinations. We have focused on holiday connections, which have recently become very popular. The strategy adopted has proved very effective – explains Adam Hamryszczak, President of the Rzeszów-Jasionka Airport.

The efforts of the airport management and employees, especially in the recent period, when the airport has to handle both passenger and cargo traffic ramped up by the war in Ukraine, are also mentioned by the Marshal of the Province Władysław Ortyl. – Today it is undoubtedly the most important airport in Central and Eastern Europe, and one of the most important airports in Europe – explains the Marshal. Władysław Ortyl also emphasises that such a remarkable development was possible thanks to the involvement of the provincial self-government and cooperation with Polskie Porty Lotnicze, which is a co-owner of the airport.

The millionth passenger received a number of prizes from the airport (a set of suitcases and a pass to the VIP lounge) and its partners, including gift sets from the companies Baltona and Lagardere, which operate in the airport's commercial areas, a voucher from the Coral Travel agency for a holiday package with a flight from Jasionka or a romantic getaway in the Bieszczady Mountains at the Skalny SPA hotel.

– I felt out of breath from the excitement, but miracles do happen after all. I am delighted and pleasantly surprised ,I've been flying from Jasionka for several years and it's great to see the progress the airport has made, not only in terms of the terminal itself and the surroundings, but also the service – says Iwona Kurpiewska, who was welcomed by airport representatives as the millionth passenger this year.

So far, the best year for the airport near Rzeszów was 2019, with 772,000 passengers checked in. The record has been beaten by almost 30 per cent, and we should remember that the year is not over yet.

At the peak of the summer season this year, the airport offered a record number of connections to 24 destinations in 13 countries, including new destinations, such as Rome (operated by Wizz Air) or Milan (operated by LOT) and charters to Podgorica, Kefalonia and Marsa Alam. The largest number of passengers were carried by Ryanair, PLL LOT and charter carriers. The most popular destinations were Warsaw, London and Antalya, which invariably holds the title of the top charter destination.

A nice surprise during the event was a recital by Justyna Steczkowska. The Polish diva sang several songs, including one “Za dużo wiesz”, performed with the millionth passenger.
