“Poles in the Battle of Britain” exhibition at the airport terminal
An exhibition titled “Poles in the Battle of Britain” has been on display at the airport terminal in Jasionka for several days now. The exhibition was prepared by the Institute of National Education Office of the Institute of National Remembrance.
- Crowds of passengers pass through our airport. I’m sure that this exhibition will be a valuable history lesson which highlights the remarkable contribution of Polish pilots to the Allies’ first strategic victory in World War II - says Adam Hamryszczak, CEO of Rzeszów-Jasionka Airport.
The original photos were gathered from the collection of The Polish Institute and Sikorski Museum, KARTA Centre, Józef Piłsudski’s Central Military Library, National Digital Archives, as well as from private collections. The photos were digitally colourised.
- “Never was so much owed by so many to so few.” Those words delivered in a somewhat broader context by Winston Churchill in 1940 can, in fact, be applied to the Polish airmen. The display demonstrates the contribution, effort, sacrifice, and craftmanship of the Polish airmen and the crew of Polish squadrons who took part in the Battle of Britain - stresses prof Dariusz Iwaneczko, director of Institute of National Remembrance Branch in Rzeszów.
The collection “Poles in the Battle of Britain” can be viewed on the first floor of the terminal, before the entering the security control area. A different exhibition was held here a few years ago, organised in collaboration with the Institute of National Remembrance, titled “Bieszczady in the Polish People’s Republic.” The airport authorities announce that there are more exhibitions to come.
